Guidelines for Installation
Cumaru decking is denser and more resistant to bending that pressure treated, cedar or composite decking. Even though its thickness is just shy of 1” (21 mm), installing your joists at 16” o.c. will provide more than enough stability for your decking. If you are installing your decking boards diagonally, your joist spacing needs to be 12” o.c.
To attach Cumaru decking to your deck frame we recommend using Ipe Clips. Cumaru decking boards that we supply are pre-grooved to be installed with Ipe Clips.
We recommend to pre-drill your Cumaru decking boards to prevent cracking.
For cutting Cumaru decking use carbide tipped blades with enough teeth to cut hardwoods. Do not try to nail Cumaru decking, we recommend pre-drilling and using stainless steel trim screws with color matched screw heads.
Prior to installation, apply hardwood Oil to your Cumaru deck boards on all sides. Oiling your Cumaru decking on the underside will prevent the deck boards from absorbing moisture from the ground below the deck. Not oiling your deck boards on the underside prior to installation can result in the wood cupping due to moisture absorption on one side.
